Mel Hyland is a six time Canadian champion, two time world saddle bronc champion and multi-hall of famer. After twenty years on the rodeo trail he turned his focus to horsemanship. He studied with some of the worlds leading horseman such as Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance.
Mel’s philosophy is that the horse is never wrong, and that the horse knows when you know and he knows when you don’t know.
In his clinics Mel teaches the importance of:
- Preparing to the position for the transition
- Rhythm, Feel, timing and balance
- Understanding how the horses feet work
- Proper seat postures
- Shaping and posturing the horse for better performance
- Understanding ‘soft feel’
- Leg aids
- Proper use of tools
